A Modern Military Mother Reviews
This book is a compilation of edited blog posts that I wrote - it's the real me.
I've not actually finished the book yet, but have to confidence to comment after just a few chapters. It is that good.Nowerdays it is quite common for people to simply take all of the blogs they have written from various sources, bundle them together and bung them out on Kindle. Those with a little more money might spring to self publishing.Mostly they are terrible. But this book is exceptional. This book is funny, thought provoking, occassionally wonderfully smutty. Most importantly though, Clare [...]
Clare Macnaughton’s book, “A Modern Military Mother – Tales from the Domestic Frontline”, is a fresh and honest collection of edited blog posts from her blog, “A Modern Military Mother”.Macnaughton shares snippets of her life; of her career, of raising her kids, and of the way her husband’s work as a British Royal Air Force Chinook pilot affects it all.It seems that no subject off-limits for Macnaughton; She writes candidly about her husband’s deployments and about his unpredicta [...]
I was lucky enough to meet the author of A Modern Military Mother: Tales from the Domestic Frontline at the 2013 London Book Fair, she told me I wouldn't be able to put her book down and do you know what? She was right! Personally I've had very little experience with the British military, other than a few friends signing up and what I've seen on T.V but when reading this it really doesn't matter. The author gives you a frank account of her life as she sees it being a mother and married into the [...]
I would rate this a solid 4.5, only because I wanted to read more. This is a rare look into military lifestyle from the eyes of a feminist. The author is English so her experience is with the RAF. The language was familiar to me due to my time in England though her military culture varies from mine. I appreciated her experience and her opinions of military life. A definite read for my Anglo-phile friends or those military wives looking for a memoir that is quite different from those currently on [...]
I received this book via the First Reads program. This was a good look inside the life of a military wife. It shows the struggles and the joys of being married to a man in the military. If you are planning to marry someone in any branch of the military, I highly recommend reading this book.
I really enjoyed this book; it made me think differently about motherhood and military life.
