I read it when it was first published in the late 90s, returning to it 20 years later was both nostalgic and a reminder of the vast generational shift in which many of the artists featured in the series are now very much the classic rock of grandparents It s also great to look at a period of artistic difference from Mike Mignola with the fat, sharpie like lines he used for the series, and the colors from Laura Allred popped per usual.

Another one that I don t really think is specifically YA.

I was introduced to this graphic novel by my Book Club, and I m really glad I read it I believe this is the first Mike Allred piece, I ve read or written about, and for the most part I enjoyed it Unfortunately, the music survey of all of Mike Allred s favorites from the 1950s until the early mid 90s was distracting and indulgent at best, and annoying and elitist at worst Like the guy at the shop who just has to keep throwing trivia at you until he finds the one thing you didn t know and can I wa [...]

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here I m a fan of Mike Allred from back in the Grafik Graphique Muzak Musique days I ve been a pop rock afficianado for about that long, as well However, there s always been something about this best of both worlds book and indeed the entire multimedia project of which it was part that s been off the mark for me The art is, typical of Allred, stunning and the colours are, typical of the other Allred, gorgeous It would be [...]

This book was given to me years ago, but I d never really been interested in reading it I picked it up now because it was relatively short and I needed some distraction one night It was a lot interesting than I d expected, though nothing spectacular My favorite part was kind of a sub point of the story Red Rocket 7 was extremely interested in music, and it details his interactions with many musicians throughout the years It was fun to see the artist s interpretation of the musicians a This book [...]

THE BEATLES, THE STONES, ELVIS, LITTLE RICHARD, T REX, BOWIEthe history of rock n roll told thru sci fi pop comic art can t describe it any better than thatjeez mike allred genius i still like MADMAN better, but you can tell this is just done out of pure love fer music and comics and stuff BONUS this new collection not the one pictured above is now the size of a 7 but one complaint the dandy warhols show up too much i used to like them, but they re douchebags this book, and THE BEATLES, THE STON [...]

Originally serialized in the 1990s, this odd series brings together SF, comics, and rock and roll in a quasi religious narrative about clones, immortality, and the great lost chord Lovely Kirbyesque gonzo art, rather pedestrian writing, and a meandering plot interested in likening the protagonist to major 1950s and 1960s rock icons than in telling a sensible story And since it s reproduced at a smaller size than originally intended, it looks cramped.

Not sure this is going to really mean anything to a reader who isn t up on their rock history but this is a fun trip through the first 20ish years of rock Featuring a nicely retro sci fi background, we follow the adventures of Red Rocket 7, a rock n roll loving clone of an alien fugitive Rock is very obviously near and dear to Allred s heart, and it really shows on every page of this book Mike s art and design is beautiful, and Laura s colors are stunning as usual A ton of fun

Did not like the history lesson and the I so hung out with beatles feeling The story was what I like and it was disregarded so that I could learn the history of David Bowe Which would be cool if red rocket did not hang out with every musician in the last decade All I want to know is, did he smoke pot with any no names

  • Raina

Lushly colored holla Laura Allred sci fi comic in which an alien is inserted into 20th century popular music history.Yeah, kinda nuff said Saw the Allreds at the last Oly Comics Fest 2012 but somehow had never read this.

  • Lucas

I loved the art, the trip through rock and roll history, everything Er, except the story, which didn t totally engage me like Madman always did That Beatles cover, um, cover was fantastic, though Great rendition of Black Francis.

  • Northern K Sunderland

Absolutely amazing.A detailed chronicle of the history of Rock Roll, with space aliens and robots A really great read

  • Eric Orchard

Beautifully drawn and really fun Allred at his best.

  • Paul Meloon

Not Allred s best work Basically a science fiction version of Forest Gump with rock stars.

  • Patrick

A fun visual pop art look at the history of rock and roll thru sci fi glasses, but completely falls apart with a disaster of an ending.

  • Richard Gombert

    Interesting, but way too preachy

  • Spoon

    flawed, but super geeky fun.
